In Midtown: A City Cyclist Dresses For Work

Heels On Wheels January Ride

IMG_8984 IMG_9018 IMG_8993 IMG_9002 IMG_8991 IMG_8997 IMG_8988 On an unseasonably warm January afternoon in the face of potential rain, these four intrepid cyclists took to the streets for fun and fellowship. Before long, a late arrival joined the northbound parade on Peachtree Street. Most tardy Atlantans blame traffic. Her excuse? Helping a friend chose a new bicycle! Read about it on her blog, Prima Cyclorina. Our growing movement is part of something larger. We've been noticed by Vélo Vogue, Let's Go Ride A Bike and Copenhagen Cycle Chic. Bikes are good for our health, good for the ecology and a joy to ride. Visit the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition website for lots of ways to get involved.

In Decatur: A Toast To The New Year

On December 30, 2010, I wrote, "Such a lovely word and too rarely heard nowadays, mil-li-ner-y rolls off the tongue with all the elegance and promise of twen-ty e-lev-en." From collaborating with the Indie Craft Experience to touting new Atlanta blogs while seeing this forum celebrated in media both nearby and far away, 2011 delivered on that promise beyond my wildest dreams. None of this would have been possible without contributions from many and all are invited to help in the realization of these three new year resolutions. First, let's see more original Atlanta designs, be they the work of amateurs or couturiers. The local movement extends beyond farm-to-table dining and micro-brewing. Second, gentlemen: you are welcome here, too. Third, people of a certain age: we must not be shy. As Yves St. Laurent observed, "Fashions fade. Style is eternal." Cheers to 2012!

Love For Atlanta Bicycle Chic

Nashville Bicycling
Long at the nexus of street fashion and bicycle commuting, Let's Go Ride A Bike is the go-to blog for sharing stories of urban life on two wheels. Dottie in Chicago and Trish in Nashville express the view that if we can do it, so can you. Reading LGRAB is something like riding in a group; the hill may be steep but dozens of others are climbing it, too. Their popularity is well-earned. Ladies, thanks for your kind words about Atlanta Bicycle Chic and Atlanta Street Fashion.

Courtnee of Sweet Georgia Brown joined Saturday's ride to Ansley Park and a familiar face who prefers the pseudonym 'Prima Cyclorina' this week launched a blog called CycleKabob. Heels On Wheels veteran Rachel Poretsky found stylish safety in a reflective sash from the Houndstooth Road collections. The Atlanta importer is planning e-commerce and retail space for Spring 2012.

Boots On Wheels Saturday

Nothing turns heads, or wheels, in winter's chill like a pair of boots. Old friends and new will gather by the Reading Room in Woodruff Park at 5pm Saturday for the Peachtree Street see and be scene. The ride is a leisurely one and will finish at the Sound Table. Dress to impress and bring a light for the final ride of 2011.
